Sportswriters, the "Dome",
and Airesurf MegaFI !

The Rogers Centre, formerly the Skydome, has once again chosen Airesurf to help deliver WiFi services to the sportscasters and the patrons who use the private boxes.

The "Dome" first chose Airesurf when the technology was in its infancy. Looking for a solution to provide Internet connectivity to sportswriters and the private boxes, the "Dome" did not want to incur the capital and labour costs of hardwiring the area, which would require a large number of routers and service outlets/drops throughout the area.

Airesurf offered the "Dome" a unique solution to the challege they faced. By attaching Airesurf 's first digital amplifier to an access point located in the sportswriters' box, Internet access was delivered wirelessly throughout the area. This saved Rogers considerable time, cost, and effort by not having to drill through the massive concrete walls to place access points every 100 meters or less.

A second system was placed near the restaurant to provide redundancy to the first unit, increase coverage in the private boxes and handle additional users.

As time passed, the number of users and tasks increased and intensified. More power was needed.

This past week Airsurf installed the latest version of its product line, the MegaFI, to upgrade one of the existing units. The Rogers Centre will conduct a number of tests over the next week to assess the unit's performance. Early results indicate that the unit has already increased the throughtput of the existing routers by 100%.

The plan is to replace the second unit and then add a third MegaFI to handle the additional sportswriters who will be attending the NFL games to be held at the "Dome" during the upcoming season.
